Concept
The project began with a brainstorming which included the creation of lifestyle, mood and visual theme boards. After that our task was the creation of several concept ideas which were refined later on.
At first I was confused by the project subject. A grabber is a tool primarily for elder people to pick up fallen objects. Personally, I had never used one and consequently I had no clue on how one could improve the product, possibly from the viewpoint of an elder people.
So, I began to think about the target group and while doing that I was also doodling on the Cintiq. I had an idea to enable the user to grab things off the floor without being forced to bend over. As if the grabber could wind up itself towards the user. I drew this picture inspired by a fern.
From there, it was only a small step to discover the octopus tentacle as the ideal grabbing tool.
